I have a Yamaha Kodiak 4x4 ATV.
While riding last weekend my reverse indicator light came on and now I cant use the electric start, I can only pull start it because it thinks it is in reverse. Everything works fine, it just thinks it is in reverse.
Any advise on who to take it to. I am no good at all at tracing wires.
If you know specifics I should check or replace, I can do that. Trouble shooting by me could lead to multiple holes appearing in said ATV.

wulf, i've had good luck w/ ssr powersports in castle creek. you can try getting free advice over the phone but they'll probably want you to bring it in. have you tried starting with the break in locked position? the kodiak is automatic and most autos will start in gear if the break is on. just a thought, good luck.

No, I didnt try that.
This is a late 90's quad, everything on it works and with exception to fading, it looks like the day it came out of the box.
Thing is, I know there are newer and nicer quads out there now but they just cant compete with this monster. I have jumped into some really slimy mud that was incredibly deep and it just keeps going. It is kinda like a 4x4 tractor. I have pulled stumps with it, I have carried two whitetails and a 290lb black bear out of the woods, I have pulled haywagons with it, two weeks ago I skidded a log and an old phone pole with it. If it had tracks I would put a turret mounted .50 on top and send it to Iraq.
Anyhow, SSR....I was thinking that was where I would have to go with it. It is just a heck of a long trip for me.
Thanks Point....I appreciate it.

Hi, I'm new to this forum; I may be able to help. Can you get the neutral light to come on even with the reverse light on? You may have a grounded wire going on or a faulty switch. I looked at the parts fiche for a 1998 model and it shows 2 gear position switches, maybe one of them went bad. I work in service at Binghamton Honda, so this seems like a simple fix. I'd like to see the wiring diagram to make sure that circuit doesn't go through the CDI box, but those switches should atleast be testable. The Sled Shop probably has a manual for that, I do not have one on hand; seems like a minor electrical problem.

I took mine there for the same thing and $500 later I still have the same problem.
