The man that owns Skyline Drag Strip up on the hill overlooking Owego is building a 1/2 mile asphalt speedway up there and I think he is going to name it Shangri-La II.

This is part of an article that ran in the Elmira Star Gazzette on Dec. 27, 2007:
•SKYVIEW DRAGS HONORED: George Swansbrough, owner of Skyview Drags in Tioga Center, received the International Hot Rod Association Track of the Year Award at the drag racing sanctioning body's annual Nitro Jam Awards Banquet last month at the Kalahari resort in Sandusky, Ohio.
Track manager Amy Culver accepted the award, given to the facility with the most significant improvements in appearance, maintenance and overall attitude in 2007.
"It's a really big accomplishment for us," Culver said from the drag strip Wednesday.
Culver said the IHRA oversees 97 tracks throughout the country. Skyview Drags has been in operation since 2003.
Swansbrough is currently building Shangri-La 2, a half-mile asphalt oval track next to his drag strip. Culver said the stock car track, named after the original one that closed down in Owego a few years ago, is expected to open in July.

WE NEED A NIGHT TIME SUPERCROSS TRACK IN THE AREA. THE INFIELD OF FIVE MILE POINT WOULD BE PERFECT, OR ANY OTHER PLACE SIMILAR. THIS WOULD BE A GREAT MONEY MAKER FOR SOMEONE.

this isn't exactly in our area, but frozen ocean (auburn) still does night motocross. starts in may and is usually every other week. anyway i agree, any one of these local tracks would make a boatload of cash if they built a tight infield/supercross style track. #9

Anyone heard anything lately about the new Shrangri-La II track in Owego? I thought they were supposed to be open by July 8th. Haven't seen or heard anything about the track lately? Just wondering.

I think the track is still being built and behind schedule. I think they are trying now to get 1 or 2 races in late in the season, Like late Sept.
